somers – trade marketing manager if i had to describe my current role as trade marketing manager at westmill foods, i would say it’s exciting and rewarding but full of challenge. working across such a diversified product portfolio makes no two days the same and the fast paced nature of the business ensures every day is motivating. my role focusses on the westmill retail brands and is all about understanding our consumers’ shopping behaviour and translating that knowledge into advice and tools that enable our customers to promote our brands as well as grow their own businesses. working closely with the brand marketers and the sales team, i develop retail activation strategies to ensure customer and consumer engagement with each activity launched. i joined westmill in july 2013, having previously been part of the abf group for the past 5 years. as my previous roles within the group have been more b2b and commodity sector roles, i was extremely excited by the opportunity at westmill as this offered me valuable experience within the retail and fmcg sector. whilst continuing to develop my functional and industry knowledge, i have also really enjoyed learning about the food the senior brand manager on rajah, which is the key brand of spices and seasoning for the ethnic consumers in the uk. this means that i am responsible for the overall p&l, volume and value delivery on my brand. my work includes gaining deeper and meaningful understanding of our consumers and how and why they use spices. i am responsible for defining the overall business and marketing objectives for my brand and developing and implementing annual brand plans to deliver the agreed objectives. the best thing about westmill, and especially the marketing team, is the high level of ownership i have of the brand i work on, in terms of defining and shaping the brand’s strategy and its future. also working in the ethnic market is very interesting. the lack of consumer and customer data often means that we have to challenge ourselves harder to think out of the box to come up with solutions to many business issues on a day to day basis. despite being a part of abf, westmill retains a relaxed and informal atmosphere which embraces different working styles and enables people to have a real impact on business issues. every day at westmill can provide new challenges. my most recent work on defining pricing strategy, monitoring and changing prices for our products has been one of the most challenging projects that i have worked on. in the ethnic market information is scarce and using the information you have to inform the right decision can sometimes be tricky. however, the sense of achievement once you have a solution to an issue is well worth the effort. dale dallaway – site general manager my name is dale dallaway and i am the site general manager for our enfield site at westmill foods. i joined westmill on the supply chain graduate scheme back in september 2006, where i completed various project roles across the supply chain, as well as production shift manager duties in both the enfield and trafford sites. since then i have been lucky enough to hold and develop in various roles including project analyst, warehouse manager, manufacturing manager and operations manager before moving into my current role as site gm. in my role i have overall responsibility of the site ensuring that we keep our people safe, we drive quality standards and deliver on cost, whilst ensuring we develop sustainable competitive advantage through capital, continuous improvement and development of our people. i enjoy my role and i am constantly challenged, it is varied with no two days the same and i have the opportunity to work with some great people. i think westmill is a great opportunity to develop within the group. cliff palterman – engineering department from my very first time on a westmill site i felt right at home. in the middle of my interview we had to leave the building to allow one of the new 100ton storage silo’s to be lifted over the offices and secured into position before we could continue with the interview. (this reminded me of the construction sites i grew up on as a child). the staff who later gave me a site tour were extremely passionate about the product and their roles to the extent they could be classed as super fans. i left the site that day wanting the job just to be part of this team. over the last decade westmill and i have grown from strength to strength building on our experience and learning new skills to be prepared for the next challenge. this has taken me across departments and i have been involved in many teams and challenges that no day is ever the same. working in the engineering department i am challenged every day to understand and implement repairs and maintenance within budget requirements. the role goes further into continually driving improvement in an attempt to stay ahead of our competitors. no day is ever the same in our world of technology revolution, understanding the process and providing support to other departments with engineering specific knowledge to help make informed decisions about the process as a whole. amar sagoo – account controller i joined westmill foods over 4 years ago as regional sales manager before progressing to my current position of account controller. this was a real change in career direction for me as my background is within financial services. i am responsible for driving sales in our successful indian sector through a portfolio of customers that have been identified as important to westmill and have the potential to grow ahead of the market. my job involves customer relationship management through effective internal and external interpersonal skills. my objectives are to increase commercial opportunities focused towards our business objectives, delivery of business drivers and brand prominence through client partnership programmes. westmill has a work culture which respects, inspires, invests and empowers you to succeed. our open door environment encourages discussion and support from all levels of management. there are fantastic opportunities for personal and functional development. our passion and continual investment in our brands has translated into their market leading position. as we grow through acquisition and development the possibilities are endless. julius gunevičius – commercial finance analyst my name is julius and i am a commercial finance analyst in westmill foods. i joined in october 2013 to build my commercial finance experience. i‘ve been with abf for 4 years now, starting in an own label bakery as an operations accountant. thanks to abf‘s financial support, generous study policies and range of experiences, i became a fully qualified chartered management accountant (cima). i could break my current role into three main areas: forecasting and budgeting – i prepare multiple schedules for the business broken down by segments and market to ensure forecasts are financially sound;
